"Still Life With Escher", or "Things That Go Around and Around"

I created this still life as one in a series that includes a hand painted copy of a masterpiece from art history. This particular M.C. Esher, titled "Reptiles", a 1943 lithograph by the artist, features lizard-like alligators crawling into and out of an Islamic tile pattern in a circular movement. This movement relates conceptually to the American jumprope placed beside it. The old Italian espresso machine, with it's twist on engineering, balances the Greek oinochoe, decorated with a group of figures going around it's central frieze. The tall, round, slender, Dutch candlestick holder stabilizes the position f the English box of reflections, opposite.
