Still Life With Velazquez, or On Earth As It Is In Heaven

This painting is part of a series I created which include a hand painted copy of a masterpiece of art history somewhere in the still life. In this piece, I include Diego Velazquez' "Coronation of The Virgin" (1641-1644).

A statuette of Our Lady of The Immaculate Heart partially obscures a clock. Her right hand holds her heart out as her left-hand gestures toward a rosary. The rosary climbs its way over a Bible, where it meets a goblet spilling grapes, an item signifying Culture and Grace. We follow the goblet upwards to the curled color xerox reproduction of Velasquez’ “Coronation of The Virgin,” signifying heaven.
