Still Life With Velazquez, or On Earth As It Is In Heaven
In the painting of “Heaven” a statuette of Our Lady of The Immaculate Heart partially obscures a clock. Her right hand holds her heart out as her left hand gestures toward a rosary. The rosary climbs its way over a Bible, where it meets a goblet spilling grapes, an invention signifying Culture and Grace. We follow the goblet upwards to a curled color xerox reproduction of Velasquez’ “Coronation of The Virgin”, signifying heaven.
